Apex Legends: What’s new in patch 1.1.1

The latest Apex Legends patch is going live at 10am PST, or 6pm GMT for the UK folks.


  • Buffs to Gibraltar and Caustic (10% damage reduction)
  • Updates to snipers to make long ranged gameplay more viable
  • Wingman and Spitfire nerfs
  • Havoc buffs
  • Battlepass XP bonus event (16th – 18th April)
  • Jump ship is 50% faster

The biggest problems we’ve seen lately in Apex have been around Hitboxes on larger characters (Poor Gibraltar and Caustic). However Apex’s response hasn’t been to jump in and change them, but rather to take a slightly different approach.N

New passive: Fortified

Fortified Passive Perk added: reduces damage taken by 10%

Both Gibraltar and Caustic will be receiving a nice, tanky update. Along with some updates to their current abilities


  • Gas Damage per tick increased: 1 -> 4
  • Ultimate Throw distance increased: 28 meters -> 33 meters


  • Gun Shield health increased: 50 -> 75

It’ll be interesting to see how these changes pan out, but I personally am glad they didn’t mess around with hitboxes and went for a slightly more logical approach.

Weapon changes

The short of it, is that they’ve buffed snipers to make long range gameplay slightly more viable. Right now, ranged play in Apex basically doesn’t exist. It’s difficult and not rewarding. They’ve also buffed the Havoc to make it a little bit more viable alongside the R-301 and Heavy Ammo ARs. Finally they’ve nerfed the wingman’s magazine capacities between attachments so it doesn’t dominate the late game as much, and reduced the damage of the spitfire slightly, but only a little bit.

    • Lowered leg shot damage reduction: 25% -> 10%
    • Reduced base weapon sway by about 33%
    • Reduced base sway speed by about 25%
    • Increased fire rate 1.2 -> 1.6
    • Increased magazine size
      • Base mag increased: 5 -> 6 rounds
      • Common mag extender increased: 6 -> 8 rounds
      • Rare mag extender increased: 8 -> 10 rounds
      • Epic mag extender increased: 10 -> 12 rounds
    • Increased base magazine size: 25 -> 32 rounds
    • Charge Beam
      • Reduced cost per shot: 5 -> 4
      • Increased close range damage: 55 -> 60
      • Increased damage at range: 45 -> 50
      • Close range damage falloff increased: 35m -> 75m
      • Ranged damage falloff increased: 75m -> 125m
    • Reduced magazine size
      • Base mag reduced: 6 -> 4 rounds
      • Common mag extender reduced: 8 -> 6 rounds
      • Rare mag extender reduced: 9 -> 8 rounds
      • Epic mag extender reduced: 12 -> 10 rounds
    • Reduced base damage: 20 -> 18
    • Magazine extender attachments reduced
      • Common mag extender reduced: 45 -> 40 rounds
      • Rare mag extender reduced: 55 -> 45 rounds
      • Eprc mag extender reduced: 60 -> 55 rounds

Seems like a small, but noticeable update. I expect we’ll see some tuning on the fortified buff moving forward, but it’s nice to see they’re not rushing things out and getting them done properly.
