As the boiling sun starts to fade away we can get back to sitting comfortably at our computers once again. Time to check in on what we’ve been playing.
Risk of Rain 2
Risk of Rain 2 recently hit it’s 1.0 release coming out of early access. With the full release came a new character, new stages and a final boss. Not only that, a load of new items have been added to the game too. It was only fair that I jump in to see how it was.
Let’s be honest, the Risk of Rain was already an excellent way before the full release. So it’s only normal that the final product is better. The core of the game was solid when it first launched into early access. Over the last year or so Hopoo Games have just been adding cool new stuff to it.
It’s one of the most fun coop games around at the moment. Even though the game just gets harder and harder as you play and way more chaotic. It’s still a blast. Each run feels different, but now you have the added benefit of working towards unlocking different load-outs for characters or unlocking artifacts that act as modifiers you can turn on or off. Whilst the premise of the game is simple to pick up, it’s a deep game that offers tonnes of replay-ability.
I absolutely love it and would recommend you take a look at it.

The Last of us Part II: Grounded
One thing that Sony first party studio games do is add continued support to the games after launch with excellent content. Infamous had a follow up standalone game released, Spider-Man had multiple expansions, Days Gone had a complete transformation from launch with additional challenges added and of course Horizon followed up with Frozen Wilds. So it’s no surprise that Naughty Dog continued this trend with the release of Grounded.
At the time of Grounded dropping I was smack bang midway through my 2nd play through of the game. I was chasing the platinum doing a play-through following a guide. I love the game, so the 2nd play through wasn’t a daunting prospect to me, but, that said there were some levels I wasn’t particularly looking forward to go back over. Mainly Ground Zero as it was terrifying.
Grounded update brings 2 new trophies. Completion of the game on the hardest difficulty (Grounded) and complete the game with Permadeath on. Permadeath, on a 24 hour story driven game that is intense as you like. Oh Boy!
Along with the new trophies which thankfully do not prevent the platinum, were a plethora of new visual experiences you can apply to the game. Visuals which can turn the game to resemble the old 8bit style games like DOOM, or a shaded visual that results in the game looking like Telltales masterpiece Walking Dead titles.
Then there are cheats, Oh yes.. cheats. Infinite ammo, infinite crafting, one hit kill, one shot kill. Now we are talking.
You unlock these by using game points you attain from just completing the game, I didn’t even know I was racking any up. But I had enough to unlock some of these cheats.
You can toggle them on an off in the game once you’ve unlocked them from the settings. So I continue my play-through with above listed cheats on. This is so much fun. The moments of the game which were filled with dread, suspense and tension are now filled with over the top run into battle firing one pistol shot at all variety of enemies and taking them out. It’s an absolute blast.
If I weren’t playing so slowly due to finding collectables my 2nd play-through would be done by now. It seems these cheats don’t impact trophies as I still acquired finding all work benches with the cheats enabled, so happy days.
One of the best games of the generation just got even better with its first major update. Outstanding stuff.
