It’s been a year since the last large PlayStation event. Sure we’ve had State of Plays for specific games like Horizon & Ratchet, as well as other State of Plays with updates on previously announced games, but they never felt as special as a proper E3 blowout, or in PlayStation’s case, a Showcase.
But after months of “Surely they’ll show something in the Summer” and seeing the traditional “Summer” months dwindle PlayStation finally spoke up and confirmed the 2021 Showcase for 9th September.
It’s predicted to be a big one, leaks have been kept to a minimum. It’s anything goes territory now. Here’s what happened.
As is tradition, they started late. Gameplay captured on PS5 for this event.
A weird chess video starts the stream off, yeah a stylish chess video. No idea what is going on here. It appears to just be a future TV advert.
Jim Ryan starts us off with a traditional welcome message with snippets of PS5 games already released and announced. Significant updates and brand new content incoming.
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic Remake
Lucas Film Game & Sony Interactive Entertainment logos start the show off. A licensed Star Wars game? Knights of the Old Republic remake. Remade for PS5. WOW.
Project Eve
Another new game up next by the look of it. Japanese development vibe from it. Not looking like my cup of tea this one, but it’s a damn long trailer. It’s called Project Eve
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
2K presents next, It’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Coming 25th March 2022.
Forspoken
Square-Enix & Luminous Projects logos up next. This is a really stunning looking game visually. It’s Forspoken, Coming Spring 2022.
Alan Wake: Remastered
Epic Publishing Games, a game by Remedy. It’s Alan Wake: Remastered. Available October 5th
Grand Theft Auto V
GTAV is here… again. Welcome back to Los Santos. Coming March 2022.
Ghostwire Tokyo
Ghostwire Tokyo is the next game to get an updated trailer, no launch period given though.
Halfway through now, what have we got…
Guardians of The Galaxy
Marvel logo on the screen, Eidos Montreal… It’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Wasn’t expecting to see that here given the 15 minute Square-Enix blow out at E3.
Boodhunt
Blood Hunt is the next game shown, coming 2021.
Deathloop
Deathloop…. again. The hype for this showcase is shrinking.
Kid Amnesia
Kid Amnesia is a weird teaser that’s shown next. Not alot to that trailer.
Tchia
Awaceb is the next dev logo to be seen. A really colourful looking game is up next. Looks like your character can posses animals on this pretty island and become them. It’s got a bit of a Moana vibe to it. It’s called Tchia.
Uncharted Collection
PlayStation Studios logo this time. And Nathan Drake is on the screen. Looks like a full Unchartered collection remastered for PS5 & PC.
Hermen Hulst is on the stream now discussing the triple A studios that PlayStation Studios have across the world. Creating games that matter, that we won’t find anywhere else. This should be the meaty part now.
Wolverine
Insomniac Games & Marvel…. Wolverine game, development for PS5.
Gran Turismo 7
Polyphony Digital now, so time to see some more Gran Turismo 7. GT is looking much more like the GT’s of old with plethora of customisation options both for under the hood and externally for visuals. It’s coming in March
Spider-Man 2
PlayStation Studios again, Spider-Man logo on the screen. Miles & Peter are both here. Venom is also here… wow. Spider-Man 2, 2023. Wow.
God of War: Ragnarok
PlayStation Studios still… Here’s Kratos. It’s God of War time. God of War Ragnorak, no date though.
The live stream switches to Sid Shuman and Herman Hulst. It’s now a deep dive into PlayStation Studios titles including Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West & God of War: Ragnarok.
Corey Balrog is quizzed what he is directing, but he’s keeping tight lipped.
Ryan Treadwell from Aspire with regards to KoToR Remake is explaining the details of this game. It’s had assistance from PlayStation to get built.
And that’s it. More 3rd party than expected. Some bombshells, but not what we were expecting from rumours floating around all year.
