Now that New World has been out for a couple of weeks, I think it’s time we started to demand more content! Not really, but there have been some things I’ve been thinking about that I’d like to see in the game. I, therefore, thought it might be fun to jot them down here.
PVP Wishlist
One area that I can’t help but feel is a little under-baked in New World is the game’s PVP. There appears to be a focus on PVP being more of an end-game activity with wars over territories taking centre stage. However, a lot of the content building up to wars is lacking.
Forts
Yesterday we captured a fort. Do you know what we got for it? Nothing. No XP, no loot, no recognition. Nothing.
Capturing forts in New World is a fairly simple process. Head inside and stand in a circle until the bar fills up. During that time the existing owners of the fort will be informed of the attempted capture and have a chance to fight back. The lack of any kind of reward – bar the territory buffs, was pretty disappointing. Even just a set amount of XP would make it much more worthwhile.
PVP Zones
I think it could be pretty fun to have faction zones where PVP must be enabled. Within the zones, there could be high-level bosses and elites to find and takedown. Perhaps even some faction-specific loot that only drops within those zones as well. Obviously, this would be a pretty difficult thing to balance so I’m not sure how it would work in practice. Maybe it could be instanced in some way, or you have to have a full group to enter. I don’t know. But what I do know is that currently questing with PVP can be completely non-consequential and that’s a bit of a shame. I’ve spent a good hour or so doing quests in a zone with PVP only to encounter no other players with PVP enabled. Which kind of leads me on to the next point.
PVP Dungeon
Destiny 2 has Gambit which is a PVPVE type mode where two teams are competing to defeat enemies and eventually get to a boss fight. Players can invade the other team’s game periodically to cause a bit of mayhem. I’d really like to see something similar in New World. Fighting through a dungeon whilst another team is doing the thing. The quicker you are the better the loot?
More reason to PVP
It certainly seems like there aren’t enough reasons for most players to switch PVP on. But I understand why. There isn’t enough of a reason to do it. Increased chances to find better loot or gems, or higher yields from mining, gathering, etc… could be one way to encourage it. Additionally, more PVP missions would make sense. Currently, there are only three missions to do, they’re always in the same area within a zone and don’t change. I understand that’s the help funnel PVPers together. But there must be a more interesting way?
Basically, I think PVP has loads of potential to be a lot of fun and I’d like to see it developed – which I’ve no doubt it will be.
PVE Wishlist
World Bosses
A pretty obvious one and one I’m sure many have already talked about. World bosses that spawn fairly rarely that are really tough to take down would be great fun. I’d love to see tens upon tens of players all converging on one area to fight a massive boss.
High Tier Dungeons
I’d be very surprised if this didn’t happen at some point. From what I’ve played of the dungeons so far, I’ve really enjoyed them. However, as you’re level goes up there will be no reason to continue doing the lower level dungeons. Adding modifiers to make the dungeons higher level with loot to match is a no-brainer.
Company Buffs
I guess this could apply to PVP as well, however, I’d like to see some more company buffs or rewards. Essentially, more reason to play with your company or in a company full stop. If you group up with people who are all from the same company maybe a small XP boost, or % increase to loot drops. Hell, it could even be perks that exist already on items that get a little more effective when you’re a full group from one company. It would be nice to give a bit more meaning to playing together especially if you’re a small company that can’t compete in things like starting wars.
Furthermore, it would be good to have a more central place you could meet and group up. Maybe the ability to purchase a company headquarters. Depending on the size of your company it could be pretty tough to work out with the varying size of companies and the space they might need. However, it would be cool to have a base of sorts within a settlement. Within it, there could be some kind of pool of resources or something along those lines. Maybe even a system where you could trade items like a postbox so you don’t necessarily have to be online at the same time.
Companies are another one of those areas that feels a little lacking at the moment. But, I’m sure over time they will get more interesting.
Other General Ideas
There are other more general things that are not only really obvious but also probably in the works in many cases.
- Mounts have been a hot topic since day one and I still think they’d be a good addition. However, I’m pretty sure they won’t be added as they’ve been pretty adamant.
- Daily and weekly tasks, Once you’ve hit max level additional tasks to complete would help keep things fun.
- New weapons, armour, etc are always something that people will want to see.
- Events! Again, this is probably one that is likely to happen. But timed events around holidays are always good fun to get involved in.
- Swimming… I swear they said they had done the animation for swimming… I don’t want to Pirates of the Caribbean my way through water anymore.
I’m sure I could go on and think of loads more, but that’s a nice little starting point. What would you like to see added to New World in the future?
