Embark on a magical journey with REKA, the and enchanting base-building game that transports players to the atmospheric landscapes of late 19th-century rural Europe. In this cosy witch simulator, you step into the shoes of a budding herb witch, exploring lush forests and scenic vistas, all while aiding villagers from the comfort of your massive chicken-legged wandering cottage.
Get your cosy on
The game draws heavy inspiration from the legend of Baba Yaga. You’ll meet the legendary witch herself, in fact, she moves in with you into your little chicken cottage. REKA weaves a tale of discovery, cottage-core aesthetics, and magical crafting. As you explore the luscious lands players will gather herbs and other magical supplies. Craft potions and medicines, and expand their whimsical abode with new crafting stations, furniture, and decorations.
The game’s charm lies in its blend of exploration, crafting, and personalization, allowing players to create a home that reflects their journey and style. From the moment your chicken cottage stands up you will start to see how your home can evolve into the perfect woodland retreat.
Explore the woodlands
For the most part, you’ll find yourself exploring and gathering resources either to help with building new bits of your cottage, craft new things, or help out the people you meet along your adventure. Venture through enchanting forests, fields, and swamps to collect ingredients for your magical concoctions. Additionally, the more you venture out the more local villagers you’ll encounter and be able to help through quests that will have you healing the sick, solving mysteries, or simply lending a hand. As you progress, your magical abilities will grow, unlocking new spells and items to decorate your cottage.
It pays to get out and explore too. Not only will you stumble across some interesting locations. But you’ll also find some cool stuff – I found a cat pretty early on. What’s not to love about that!?
REKA is currently in early access and does have a couple of rough edges here and there. That being said, I haven’t noticed any major problems and certainly nothing that has me not wanting to play it.
As per the roadmap, the initial focus will be on fixing any bugs or issues. Then we will start to see some new small content drops towards the end of the year. With larger updates planned for early 2025.
Cosy games on the rise
Cosy games are definitely a genre that has been growing over the last couple of years. It’s easy to see why. So many – including REKA, hold such charm and imagination. Furthermore, their chilled-out nature, it makes them a pleasure to play. REKA is no different. I’ve loved getting my witchcraft on, and exploring the beautiful scenery with its low poly, autumnal vibes.
For those who dream of witchcraft and building their little safe space, REKA is the perfect escape into a world of low-stakes magic and enchantment and it’s out now on Steam.
