It’s rainy, grotty and grey. Summer has officially ended, less going out and more time in playing games? Probably.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta
The COD: MW Open Beta took place during the weekend. I downloaded it Thursday in preparation and spent some time on it Friday & Saturday night.
First few games Friday I was awful, I blame this on getting used to the maps as once I’d sussed them, in Domination and TDM my K/D Ratio tended to end more in the plus side than negative. As for the Saturday, I had partaken in about 6 beers before joining Will and Ross trying the cross platform out. I also ended up spilling a can while playing due to frustration and arm flailing. Lesson learned.
I enjoyed the BETA from what I’d played. Domination is always my go to game and the limited maps we had on circulation were reasonably fun. Read some negative impressions on the map featuring the cave, but I quite enjoyed it.
We played a lot of rounds of Cyber Attack which had elements of Rainbow Six Siege in that you are in a squad and when you’ve been killed you can’t re-spawn and are reliant on team mates to revive you. The intended method of play is to pick up a bomb and take it to a data server and destroy it. However we were winning rounds based on purely eliminating all enemy teams players. Much quicker way to win.

Not sure if this was a common issue, but me running the game on PS4 could not speak to Will or Ross on their PCs. We ended up chatting via Discord from phones, but ideally it would have been better to have party chat setup as standard. But again not sure if this was an issue all cross platform parties was experiencing or if we were doing something wrong.
As for the cross platform experience it seemed to work well. The K/D from me compared to the PC players was significantly higher for them, but I blame the beer and not the platform. I’ve not played an online FPS game with Will since the Xbox360 days as we went different routes with our console choices after that gen. It was good fun playing again. I’ve admitted defeat at PC gaming and can’t see me wanting to go that route, but if more games going forward implement cross platform gaming out of the gate it’d be amazing.

Deep Rock Galactic
There is a fairly chunky update coming to Deep Rock Galactic this week in the form of the catchily titled update 25. With it comes new end game content and a few other editions. I’ve been playing quite a bit of the game recently as a result of the pending update and have to say it’s so much fun!
There is some information about the new update at the beginning of the video if you want to check it out!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta
As Murr has already said, we played some COD this weekend and you know what, it was a lot of fun. So much so that I hit the beta level cap of 30 last night.
I think this is actually going to be the first COD game I get in years.
Most of my thoughts pretty much mirror what Murr said, so I won’t repeat myself. I’ll just add that this COD feels like the COD of old to me, back to the original Modern Warfare, the days when I played the absolute hell out of Call of Duty. I’m looking forward to playing the full game later this year!
