Gamescom has been and gone in a flash and I feel like this year everything was a little more understated or flat. I don’t know if it was just me, but there didn’t seem to be much of a buzz about the expo.
That being said, there were still some lovely-looking games announced. One of which really caught my eye – was the next game from Okomotive – the team behind the fantastic FAR games, in collaboration with Panic, the publishers of Firewatch. That game is Herdling.
Herdling
Herdling promises to be a captivating journey that will take players on an alpine adventure teeming with mystery and charm. The game invites you to guide a herd of adorable creatures known as Calicorns through breathtaking mountain
paths. Filled with fog-wrapped forests, snowy plateaus, and forgotten valleys. Much like its predecessors, it will be an emotional, wordless tale that emphasizes trust, survival, and companionship as you navigate through a fallen world.
The gameplay is designed to be a blend of exploration and light environmental puzzles, where you’ll need to protect your herd. Prepare to hone your herding skills against a variety of challenges and threats, and feel the rush of mountain air in
exhilarating stampede sequences. If you’ve played the FAR games, then you’ll probably have a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of the types of puzzles and overall gameplay. Herdling looks to follow a similar route whilst expanding on
that with some new ideas and mechanics. Additionally, it looks like the game will be set within a more 3D space rather than the side-scrolling of the FAR games.
The specific release date is yet to be announced. Herdling will be coming to PC and consoles in 2025. Hopefully, that means early 2025 but we shall see. For those eager to learn more, you can keep an eye on the official Herdling website or
add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
Both of the FAR games were such fantastic journeys and I’m sure we are in for another treat with this one. Herdling is shaping up to be a beautiful adventure that will offer an immersive experience with a wild and whimsical world. I can’t wait!
