A new Post-Cyberpunk Survival Horror RPG recently got announced and it’s giving me real Signalis mixed with STASIS: Bone Totem vibes. Both are brilliant sci-fi games albeit quite different. GRAFT looks like it could nestle in alongside them as another fantastic indie horror game.
Developed by Harebrained Scheme, the creators behind the acclaimed BATTLETECH and Shadowrun Trilogy, GRAFT promises to be a thrilling addition to the survival horror RPG genre.
What is GRAFT
Set aboard a vast, dying space station known as the Arc, GRAFT immerses players in a post-cyberpunk world teeming with darkly fascinating characters and nightmarish monsters. The game’s narrative is rich and dense, offering players a chance to explore a hauntingly beautiful world filled with compelling choices and impactful consequences.
Players must navigate the treacherous environment of the Arc, scavenging parts from fallen enemies to enhance their abilities. This process of ‘grafting’ is not just a means of progression but also a central theme of the game. Each graft carries with it a fragment of its previous owner’s identity, posing philosophical questions about memory and identity. Who will you become as you transform yourself to survive the horrors that lurk in the darkness?
GRAFT is more than just a fight for survival; it’s an RPG experience that challenges players to form alliances, build relationships, and make decisions that will shape their journey. With every choice, players will influence the fate of those they encounter, navigating a world where trust is scarce, and every survivor is both dangerous and treacherous.
Horror Revival
There’s a real buzz for indie horror games over the last year or so. I’ve already mentioned Signalis and STASIS. However, there’s the upcoming Hollowbody, as well as Becrowned to name just a couple. Indie horror is on the rise. With developers capturing the feel of the retro horror games from the late 90’s early 00’s. Whilst building upon that with new mechanics, beautiful lighting, and all that jazz.
GRAFT conjures those same feelings for me. The environments look brilliant, the atmosphere foreboding, and it looks like it could be pretty damn scary. It looks like it could still be a little way off, but it’s definitely one to keep an eye on if you enjoy your horror games! It will be coming to both Steam and the Epic Store.
