PlayStation 4 might not have been the best selling console in the United States for October, but that didn’t stop Sony announcing a rather positive bit of news last night.
Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4 has sold through over 30.2 million units worldwide since its release in late 2013. The figure is as of Sunday, November 22nd, and Sony says “PS4 continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history.”
Quite the impressive feat. To give you an idea, when comparing to the PS2 which is the best selling video games console of all time, it took the PS2 26 months to hit this figure. Hopefully PS4 can maintain such phenomenal sales for the rest of it’s life span. Somewhat more positive news for Sony is that the PS4 hit this figure before black Friday which traditionally sees a huge increase of console sales. Again for perspective Sony sold 4.1m PS4’s in the final 6 weeks of 2014. So there’s every chance that the PS4 could end 2015 at 35m units sold. With 2016 looking like a stormer of a year for PS4 with regards to first party titles it’s all positive news for Sony and the PS4. An absolutely incredible number and completely deserved sales for the console. Roll on PlayStation experience in 10 days.
