It has been a week of checking out some very promising games as they’ve been running some closed betas.
Chivlary 2
Over the weekend, Tripwire Interactive and Deep Silver held a closed beta for the upcoming medieval melee multiplayer game Chivalry 2. On Friday night I was lucky enough to get access. Over the course of the weekend, I streamed some gameplay and played a fair amount offline as well.
With two games mode to play – Team death match and Team objective each with two maps to try out. There were also four different classes each of which had various unlocks to earn. It’s safe to say that there was a decent amount to play.
During my entire time playing, I had an absolute blast with the game. The combat, whilst brutal and gory is really good fun. Each of the classes plays slightly differently – usually based on the size of the weapon you wield. However, they also have access to different utilities such as dropping bandages or dropping down a spiky cover thing.
To be honest, all of that is secondary to just hack and slash your way through foes. It’s so much fun and so satisfying to actually win fights against more than one person. During my whole stream, I was laughing along with every kill and every death – not in a weird way, but a fun enjoying myself kind of way… Personally, I found the Team Objective mode to be way more enjoyable. Especially on the Fall of Lionspire map. Battling over the bridge created a really enjoyable choke point where at times it would feel like a huge brawl between two armies rather than a few random fights here and there.
Needless to, I will be picking this game up once it releases.
Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy
Another game that I played on stream earlier this week that was also in beta was Unexplored 2. I orginally played this back in 2019 at EGX and since then I’ve been keeping my eye on it as what I got to play had me intrigued!
Unexplored 2 is an action-roguelike with RPG mechanics. You play as the Wayfarer and must travel across a procedurally generated land on a quest to destroy the Staff of Yendor. As you travel you will be exploring ancient ruins and dungeons, lush forests, and encounter a wide variety of characters, both friend and foe.
Again, this was another game I really enjoyed playing on stream. It was really fun to epxlore and discover the secrets hiding away. Unfortuntely the full game is still some way off with a vague 2022 release date. But it sure is one I will keep an eye on.
