On the 25th November 2015 we reported that Sony’s PlayStation 4 had hit the milestone of selling 30.2m units globally.
Well over the festive period PlayStation added another 5.7m console sales taking the new global tally of console sales to 35.9m as of 3rd January 2016. To hit that home, 30.2m by November 2015, then 5.7m in 5 weeks!
That is an absolutely outstanding Christmas period no doubt helped due to the marketing campaigns PlayStation had with the year ends big hitters such as Call of Duty, Assassins Creed and Star Wars Battlefront.
For reference PS4 sales were at 18.5m at this point last year, so 2015 was an incredible year for the consoles sales.
Another mind boggling statistic from this is that the PS4 in 5 weeks sold over half of the WiiU’s life time global sales.
And while we’ve not had official numbers from Microsoft in a long time with regards to XboxOne figures, it’s rumoured that 2015’s PS4 global sales alone were very close to XboxOnes life time total sales which again just insane to hear.
2016 should hopefully be another incredible year for PS4 with heavy hitters Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Street Fighter 5, The Last Guardian and many more set to release.
