It’s pretty safe to say that I’m winding down from work right now and that’s because I go on holiday to Las Vegas at the end of the week. I will be turning the big 30, so why not go to Vegas!
Despite me being in holiday mode, and having to start thinking about getting ready to leave, I will always make time to play some games, because that’s what we do.
Elite Dangerous has been getting a lot of attention this week, one, for the announcement of Horizons, an expansion coming later this year that will see us being able to land on planets. Two, because we recently got the CQC Championship released.
CQC or Close Quarter Combat is the new pvp mode that sees you head to smaller arenas to battle it out against other players. There are currently three game modes to play, Team Death match, Death match and Capture the Flag. I managed to get in to a few games, and surprisingly was able to hold my own for the most part – I even finished top in one match.
You start off with access to one ship, and through ranking up you gain access to more with varied loadouts. You can also gain bonuses during the match which can grant you things such as improved shields, speed boost and improved weapons, they are only available for a short time though so use them wisely. I’ve only got to rank 4 so far so have two ships unlocked in total.
It was good fun, and provides a nice change of pace to the normal game, and I can see myself playing a fair amount over the next few months. However a lot of time was spent just waiting to get in to games, and it did seem like match making was either a little iffy, or maybe there just wasn’t’ many playing it? With it still being in Beta these things are expected so I will give it the benefit of the doubt.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this game mode progresses.
I also got my notification that Windows 10 was ready to install, so I decided to give it a try. I’ve been keeping an eye on how things have been going with the new OS, and hadn’t really heard of many issues, so I thought it would be ok. I was wrong.
Upon installation it somehow managed to break my internet, I couldn’t find any of my drivers for it or anything like that, I also couldn’t find out a fix for it. It also had some issues with screen resolution, I wasn’t able to set my screen to 1920×1080 for some reason, and it just looked terrible with all the huge icons of the lower resolution. Needless to say I quickly reverted back to Windows 8. I will be leaving it a little while before I try that again.

From one extreme to the other for me this weekend. I can’t actually recall switching any of my consoles on for gaming once this weekend which is a little disappointing. It was my wife’s birthday in the week so Friday night we went out for some drinks with friends. Nothing overly heavy, but we were out pretty late so no chance for gaming Friday night.
Saturday was spent driving around, I took my wife for her birthday present which was a tragus piercing. We then had some food out and as the weather was nice I got my car washed. That didn’t leave much time before some friends came over our house for some pre night out drinks. We were off out for Will’s surprise 30th birthday party in town. That ended up being a late night and a rather heavy one. Sunday was a write off till some time in the afternoon where I woke up just in time to get to a family BBQ which definitely helped with the hangover. With not much left of the weekend I just watched some stuff on the WWE network.
I’ll get back onto Wind Waker HD now, with the intention of collecting the Tri Force shards, but first I need to top up my rupee count as Tingle is one harsh business man.

NEWS ROUND-UP
Microsoft @ Gamescom
As I’m sure you’re aware this week was Gamescom and Microsoft put on a pretty good show. You can catch up on all the news from them here.
KOTOR Remaster?
A pretty awesome rumour surfaced over the weekend and that was that Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic was going to get a remake. KOTOR is one of my favourite games ever, so I would be so happy about this, but right now it seems like a pipeline dream. Here’s hoping though. You can read about the rumour here.
