Over the weekend and still ongoing Disney held their D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Centre in Anaheim California. There was a lot of excitment for this one with big news expected and first looks at the upcoming films from Pixar, Marvel, Disney Studios and the Star Wars movies.
Here’s how the weekend has panned out so far.
First up to break on Twitter were posters of Pixars upcoming movies, The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, Incredibles 2, Toy Story 4 and Cars 3. They aren’t the most revealing posters, but still enough to get you hyped for what’s coming soon.
As well as Pixar there was also info on Disney Studios upcoming titles such as Zootopia and Gigantic. Zooptopia will be releasing on March 4th 2016, and will be featuring Shakira voicing a gazelle.
There was also some art work from Gigantic which will feature a gigantic princess.
There was also info on Moana which will feature Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Moana introduces a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. She meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage.
And info on Disney Pixars Coco which is based on Mexican Day of the Dead.
And with that it was over to Marvel who were talking about Captain America: Civil War. A trailer for the film was shown, but it’s yet to be officially released and a few fake leaks are doing the rounds currently. From what’s been said and seen Vision is visible in the trailer, As well as Falcon, Cross Bones, Captain America himself and Ant-Man.
A breif summary from Deadline:
The Civil War trailer was, frankly, awesome. Brutal fight scenes right off the bat, a dive into the conflict between Tony Stark and Captain America that motivates the plot. Particularly Stark making the point that “Without boundaries we’re no better than them.” The best moment was at the end, when we see Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang brought into Captain America’s faction, and he goes completely starstruck. “I know you know a lot of super… people, so I wanted to say thinks for thanking of me. Thanks for thinking of me.”
Away from Marvel it was back to Disney Studios who revealed posters for Alice Through the Looking Glass and the live action version of The Jungle Book. The Jungle Book will feature Bill Murray as Baloo and Chrisptoher Walken as King Louie. Some excellent casting.
There was some news on the next installment of the Pirates franchise. Pirates of the Caribbean, Will Turner played by Orlando Bloom will be returning.
And onto what many considered to be the main event, Star Wars…
First up it was announced that Colin Trevorrow director of Jurassic World will be directing Star Wars Episode IX. Next up was the confirmation of Star Wars Rogue One cast. Mads Mikkelsen was confirmed in the cast. Forrest Whitaker, Felicity Jones, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen and Ben Mendelsohn make up the rest of the cast.
There was also the announcment that Star Wars Land will be a new attraction opening at Disney Land.
Today at the D23 EXPO 2015, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced to an audience of more than 7,500 fans that Star Wars-themed lands will be coming to Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., allowing Star Wars fans to step into the stories from a galaxy far, far away.
Ambitious plans to bring Star Wars to life in the two parks include creating Disney’s largest single-themed land expansions ever at 14-acres each, transporting guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.
“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” said Iger. “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
These authentic lands will have two signature attractions, including the ability to take the controls of one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon, on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle.
And finally we had a poster of Star Wars 7 revealed:
All in all a pretty exciting few days worth of reveals and info. To summarise Disneys upcoming movies check out the release schedule picture from the conference
