Overwatch
If you follow Overwatch at all you will have probably seen the announcement for the new Workshop game mode that released last week on the PTR. Essentially it allows players to code their own rules in to Overwatch matches and create crazy game modes to play.
I’ve been getting to know some of the new game modes and I have to say that I’m very impressed with the amount of new ideas being conjured up in just less than a week. The potential for what we could see in a few months could be really incredible.
A couple of the game modes that I’ve played so far – Gun game, where each kill moves you on to a new hero until you complete a kill with all the predetermined heroes. It’s just like it is in CS:GO if you ever played that, apart from the fact that it’s hero switches instead of guns. It’s a really fun mode to play. Flying Bastion, I can’t remember the proper name for it, but essentially Bastion can fly in turret mode and it’s amazing.
I think the addition of the workshop to Overwatch is going to be huge, the fact that these modes are so easy to share with a simple code is great, the fact that we’re already seeing so many amazing ideas is awesome. The potential for this could be massive. Although actually learning to code these changes is pretty tricky by the looks of it, but I’m not interested in that.
If you’re interested I’d suggest going over the to sub reddit as people are constantly sharing new modes. It’s only available on the PC PTR at the moment, but it will be heading to consoles too.
Football Manager 2019
Football Manager has always been one of those games that I will always play no matter how long it’s been since I last played. The series in it’s current form has been going for over 10 years now and if you count Championship Manager (what it was originally called before the split) it’s been going for over 20 years. I’ve played it almost every year since then and I still love it. Tinkering and tweaking, taking lower league teams to a Champions League final has always been an amazing feeling and never gets old.
Once again I’m back on it. There seems to be a correlation with real life football and whether I want to play. i.e. if my team is doing well IRL, I feel more like I want to play. Also when it’s the transfer windows in football, that makes me want to play.
It’s funny because FM is really quite a niche game, and I’m sure most people reading this really don’t care about it or have never played it, but there is something about this series that just has been coming back every year. But hey, I love it and I’m leading Ajax to league glory as we speak!
