Last night was the Summer Game Fest opener (still lots more to come over the weekend). During the show, hosted by Geoff Keighley we got to see a number of new games and some trailers for other games we knew were already in the pipeline. I’ve picked out a few favourites that I can’t wait to see more of. If you want to see a full list of announcements I’d suggest checking the reddit thread.
Nightingale
Release Date: Q4 2022
Platforms: PC via Steam, Epic Store
Being a fan of survival games and base-building games Nightingale was always going to be one I wanted to see more of. This game is looking really promising with it’s interdimensional worlds which you seem to be able to travel between with a card creation system. Building bases, fighting beasts, and surviving are all the common themes in Nightingale. It looks fantastic with a beautiful fantasy setting akin to something like Fable.
The Callisto Protocol
Release Date: 2nd December 2022
Platforms: PS 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC Steam, PS 4, Xbox One
I’m 99% sure I won’t play this as I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to horror games. And The Callisto Protocol looks like it will ramp it up to 11. The Dead Space influences are clear to see (it does have some of the old Dead Space team working on it). It looks stunning and gruesome and terrifying. Fans of horror games have to play it. I will settle for watching someone else play it.
Highwater
Release Date: December 2022
Platforms: PC Steam
The world has ended due to massive flooding and the planet is all but doomed. Guide Nikos and friends through this flooded world in a turn-based adventure where you’ll be solving puzzles for a chance to escape. It looks great, and the idea of it being turn-based seems like a really interesting one.
Routine
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC Steam, Xbox
You’ll get some real Alien Isolation vibes from this trailer I’m sure. Creepy atmosphere, oppressive and decaying retro sci-fi environments, and wonderful sound design. It looks scary as hell. But also very cool. This is an action horror game to keep an eye on.
Witchfire
Release Date: Coming Soon
Platforms: PC Epic Store (initial early access), Other platforms later on
Did someone say medieval Doom? Because that’s what Witchfire is looking like. Conjure magic to fight off demonic-looking creatures. Or blow them away with one of many weapons on hand. Witchfire is looking slick and stylish with a gothic horror action vibe. Check it out!
Warhammer 40,000 Darktide
Release Date: 13th September 2022
Platforms: Xbox Series X and S, PC Steam
A lot of you will already be familiar with Darktide, it’s like Vermintide but set in the 40k universe. If you’re not, think Left 4 Dead but sci-fi. This co-op shooter is looking really good and I know it’s going to be a real hit for those who love to shoot hordes of enemies with friends.
You can expect to hear about a lot more announcements over the next few days. It’s like gamer Christmas and we love it. We will share more of our favourites too! Keep your eyes peeled.
