As I did last year I thought it would be a good idea to put together a list of some of my most anticipated games at this years EGX Rezzed event and ones that I think you should take the time to go and play.
We’re little less than a week away now and there are a huge amount of games to check out. Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming what to go and try out, or maybe you have limited time and want to make the most of it. Hopefully this list will give you a little insight before you get there and help you decide what to check out.
The amazing thing about Rezzed is that there are always loads of brilliant indie games to check out and you can meet the people developing them too. I’ll mostly be looking at games that aren’t actually out yet though, rather than games that are already available to buy.
My Friend Pedro
My Friend Perdo is all about bullets, acrobatics and taking down bad dudes in the most stylish looking way possible. The gameplay looks super slick and incredibly fun.
Void Bastards
Void Bastards looks beautiful, the comic book style visuals look amazing, and behind that there is some really good, fun looking FPS gameplay, twinned with strategy elements as you plan your missions through dangerous spaceships.
Anno 1800
Being developed by Blue Byte, Anno 1800 is another title in the very popular strategy franchise. This time we’re heading to the industrial revolution. Choose to be an innovator or an exploiter, a conqueror or liberator. Take charge of your own destiny as make your way through a rapidly evolving time.
You might want to set aside a fair bit of time for this one to get a good feel for it, it could be a long demo!
I will mostly focus on games that aren’t out just yet, or are showing some new DLC/Expansion.
El Hijo
El Hijo is a spaghetti western stealth game where you embark on a quest to find you mother.
It has a charming visual style to it where you’ll be travelling through different environments, solving puzzles and outwitting your enemies with stealth and cunning.
Flotsam
Flotsam almost feels like a bit of a regular to EGX now having popped up at Rezzed before and the bigger EGX events in September. It’s a wonderful looking city building game set upon the seas. I played it last year and loved it, if you like city building strategy games definitely check it out.
Close to the Sun
There are some strong Bioshock vibes in Close to the Sun, a first person horror adventure game set on the Helios, Nikola Tesla’s science utopia. It looks gorgeous and pretty damn scary too.
Disobedient Sheep
Something a little more light-hearted is Disobedient Sheep, a two to four player game where you play a dogs guided your sheep to victory trying to avoid obstacles and hazards.
It looks fun and frenetic and the perfect kind of game to be a hit at EGX Rezzed.
Eastward
This beautifully detailed pixel style RPG, set in a post apocalyptic world is full of weird and wonderful creatures where you take on a quest help a girl named Sam that you find deep underground in a secret facility.
Inmost
Don’t let the 8-bit graphics fool you, this game is full of atmosphere, tension and creepy monsters. Inmost is a story driven platformer following three characters through and interconnected story.
Luna: The Shadow Dust
You and your mystery friend will experience an unique point & click adventure that requires both courage and determination. Enter the ancient tower that stands at the edge of world, help bring back your lost memories and find out the darkest secret beyond the tower itself.
Nanotale – Typing Chronicles
Play as a young archivist venturing out into a dying world, cataloging the mysteries and its wonders to unearth the truth. Nanotale is the new adventure from the Typing Chronicles franchise and the spiritual successor to the acclaimed Epistory.
Negative Atmosphere
Time to poop your pants in this new 3rd person sci-fi survival horror being development by Sun Scorched Studios.
It reminds me quite a bit of Dead Space, so I’m expecting it to be just as scary.
Sail Forth
Sail Forth is a procedural sailing adventure game about naval action and exploring beautiful scenery. Embark on a journey through varied environments, grow your fleet and do battle with pirates, sea monsters, and the sea itself!
Untitled Goose Game
This game just looks like a load of silly fun. Playing as a mischievous goose, you spend your time tormenting a gardener by stealing objects to complete objectives and, well basically just mess about. It looks great!
Warhammer: Chaosbane
If you’re a Diablo fan then I’d suggest you probably go and check out the latest game to come from the world of Warhammer. Chaosbane is an action RPG playable with up to 4 players and it looks full of great hack and slash gameplay. I’m going to spend an extensive amount of time checking it out!
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Winds of Magic
The next expansion to Vermintide 2 will be playable at Rezzed, and it sees a new enemy join the fight in the form of the Beastmen. There is no gameplay of it yet, but we all pretty much know the formula by now, hack your way through hordes of beasties in gloriously gory first person combat.
RAD
RAD is a colourful post apocalyptic adventure game where you’ll be fighting mutated beasts with a wonderful array a mutant abilities.
There are so many more games to check out, but theses are just a few that are on my list and that I think you should take a look at too.
Don’t forget about the large selection of board games on offer too – I’m eyeing up a game or two of Keyforge if anyone wants to play, and the Leftfield collection that’s always full of interesting projects and weird little gems.
